Choice Home Warranty cost
Choice Home Warranty prices range anywhere from $46.83 to $54.75 per month. Your exact cost will vary depending on your location and the features of your home.
Most plans from Choice Home Warranty have a flat $100 service call fee per claim. You pay this fee to the service provider who comes to your home. If the cost of a repair or replacement exceeds the coverage limit, the customer is responsible for paying the difference.
Choice Home Warranty refunds your fees if you cancel within 30 days, minus any service costs (unless these charges are prohibited by your state’s laws). If you cancel after 30 days, you’ll receive a prorated refund for your agreement fees, minus any service costs allowed by your state’s laws. You’re also responsible for a $50 administrative fee (or lower, based on state law). See the company’s user agreement for more details.
Choice Home Warranty coverage exclusions
Choice Home Warranty plans cover all components and parts of certain appliances, such as washers, dryers, dishwashers and garbage disposals. Other appliances and all systems, including air conditioners and water heaters, have coverage exclusions. It’s important to read the service agreement thoroughly so you understand what’s covered before you sign up.
Like many other home warranty companies, Choice Home Warranty won’t cover any preexisting conditions, whether known or unknown, or any failures caused by misuse, abuse, neglect or physical damage. Ultimately, it’s up to the company to determine whether a covered system or appliance will be replaced or repaired.
Choice Home Warranty claims and coverage limits
If you have a contract with Choice Home Warranty and need to file a claim, follow these steps to request service:
- Call or log in to the online account center to request service as soon as you notice a problem. You can make a claim online or call 24/7/365.
- Choice Home Warranty will contact service providers within four hours. It will let you know the contractor’s name and phone number and the appointment time — usually within 48 hours.
- A contractor will arrive at the appointed time and repair or replace the system or appliance. You pay the service call fee of $100.
If your claim is denied, you can ask for Choice Home Warranty to review its decision. The company may ask for maintenance records as part of this review. Choice Home Warranty may deny a claim if the problem is determined to be a preexisting condition or the result of misuse, abuse, neglect or failure to maintain the appliance or system according to the manufacturer’s directions.
Coverage limits
Choice Home Warranty has a $3,000 cap per 12-month period on most covered appliances and systems, though some systems and appliances have lower caps. Some notable exceptions are:
Covered item | 12-month cap |
---|---|
Roof leaks | $500 |
Septic tank pumping | $250 |
Septic system | $500 |
Sprinkler system | $500 |
Stand-alone ice maker | $500 |
Trash compactor | $500 |
Well pump | $500 |
Be sure to ask about coverage limits for any items you’re concerned about before purchasing a service plan.

The wife was doing a load and started smelling something was burning. I tried to figure out what I would do. And I realized I got a home warranty system now. So, I called Choice Home Warranty and submitted a claim. They had a guy out within three days. He looked at it. At the same time, I submitted one for the dryer. They opted to replace the washer and repair the dryer. It went through quickly.
One company handled both the repair of the dryer and in the decision process to replace the washer. The service tech that came out was very knowledgeable. I was impressed. He had the drum out. He had the front of it off. He said, "This won't be too bad to fix. I know what it's gonna take to fix it." He had it all put back together so that visually, you couldn't tell it was not a functioning unit. It looked just like every day. He had the part in less than a week. He came back out and had the unit again, all apart, new part installed, put back together, running ready to go. He had that done in under two hours. I'm impressed with the companies that Choice Home Warranty chose in this situation.
I questioned the original amount. The rep explained to me that a long time ago, they would buy the replacement unit and ship it to the homeowner. They had numerous complaints over that. So what they've done now is they don't go with replacement cost. They go with, "What could we buy it for at the wholesale value? And that is the price that we will give the homeowner." I said, "Are you for real? So you guys could buy a new washer, washing machine for $280, yet, Joe homeowner, he ain't gonna find one for less than 550. What's he supposed to do?" And she said, "I'm sorry. But that's been our policy for the last X number of years." "But what you have quoted us is not life value for what we have.” So, she increased our payout by 35%. She asked, "Can you tell me what your manufacture is?" Within 30 seconds, she approved us to get more money to replace our unit.
A lot of homeowners, when a piece of equipment dies, they look at it as an opportunity to upgrade and to get newer and more bells and whistles. That is another reason why they don't buy a new unit and send it to us because the homeowners would be, "Give us the money, and we'll pitch in some of our own money and get a newer, bigger, better thing." That's what they did. And it went smooth. I am happy with it.

All of the Choice Home Warranty Customer Service representatives who responded to questions about my claim status for service on my inoperable air conditioner and the options available to me provided clear and accurate information. I had to make several calls about the status of my claim. Each person I spoke with was patient, helpful and courteous.
The Choice Home Warranty process to identify technicians to service customers is problematic. I made the request for a technician to service my air conditioner on Saturday, July 1 and by Monday, July 3, none of their technicians in my area "picked up" my claim. I had to select the reimbursement option. The reimbursement option comes with great potential temporary cost to repair an air conditioner or replace one.
I recommend Choice Home Warranty reviews the processes to identify and get technicians to service claims. For example, they should contract local companies to provide emergency service-and not having air conditioning on the hottest days of the summer so far -110- is an emergency - when their technicians do not "pickup" claims within two (2) days-48 hours.
In addition, when a claim is not "picked up" in two days, Choice Home Warranty should pay for the repairs that the company submits through its portal. It is unfair for the customer to pay for repairs and be reimbursed within 30 days when the area Choice technicians in an area do not "pickup" a claim. I believe the requirement that the technician should complete their report in the Choice portal is fair. I believe the process, which requires specific information is sufficient to show the technicians' qualifications and support the repair cost.
Finally, I want to reiterate that the Choice Home Warranty reimburse process should be reviewed and changed so that customers do not have to pay for repairs when technicians do not "pick up" their claim. In addition, Choice should have contracts with local companies so that they can respond when local technicians do not "pick up" a claim.

After doing a lot of research I called and spoke to someone to ask them about what was actually covered by the warranty. It turns out that I was on one of their websites that is designed mostly to "sell" - not give you all of the info you need to know to make a decision. If you Google "Choice Home Warranty," the very first entry takes you to choicehomewarranty.com, where there is actor Richard Karn and a heavy sales pitch - but not detailed info about what you might be signing up for. To the RIGHT of that first entry is a large company block with a tel # and THE EXACT SAME URL/link printed, choicehomewarranty.com...but this link takes you to a different site that is very indepth and just what I needed.
The rep was patient with me for a while, but basically kept explaining to me that I was wrong, rather than listening to the confusion that their two different sites created. He said everyone knows to go to the company side on the right. I disagree. We read left to right, top to bottom, and the first entry in Google will be what people use 90% of the time. (BTW, he hung up on me when his patience ran out...) When I called the next day and got someone else, I had a totally different experience and signed up. Whew! Hopefully someone will read this and make it more customer-friendly someday so others get the whole story with just one click. (A simple fix? Just add a button to the "sales" site that says "Need more info? Click here." Also, it keeps asking you for your name, zip, email and tel - and then I got several calls that day from CHW reps....always annoying, especially after you've already signed up.)

The first tech (chris) was excellent getting to the root of the problem that was a heating element issue. He quickly changed the heating element and all looked well. He did advise that the dryer vent needed to be blown out to safely use the dryer. After leaving the area, the dryer was started to see if any heat was working, after a few minutes the dryer indicated there was a E1 error, and the system shut down. I spoke with the tech by phone after he departed, and he advised that I do not use the dryer until the vent was blown out. I had the vent blown out and the dryer still indicated an E1 error.
I contacted Choice and another tech was scheduled to see what the error was. Kyle came and after checking several things it was decided that the thermistor (?) was bad. Kyle did not have a replacement and he will have to order the part and have it sent to me. I received the part on 6/13 and I am waiting for another tech to arrive on Monday 6/17. Efforts on my behalf to get someone out here before Monday did not work and I am waiting for the thermistor to be replaced.
All in all waiting for several weeks to have a dryer repaired was not good, I believe that the Chris the first tech should have checked further along to see if the thermostat or thermistor could have also been bad, it would have saved a lot of time. But can understand by replacing the heating element, he figured that may have been the issue. I do believe that a $45 dollar payment when the 2nd tech arrived should have been covered due to problem not solved. The $45 dollar payment for the new tech I believe will be covered due to a return for a new thermistor replacement. Overall, hopefully the problem will be solved, I will know on Monday 4/17 if E1 error indicator has been repaired.

When I first called Choice Home Warranty for a pool/spa service call I unfortunately got a very unreliable vendor who did not bother showing up or even notifying me of their "no show" namely Emerald Pools. All in all, each time I have reached out to Choice Home Warranty they have responded and have provided fairly good customer service. My apologies to Choice Home Warranty for filing a complaint to the BBB about their no-show vendor, as it really is important that we make every effort to provide both positive or negative feedback on their vendors. The 2nd time I called Choice Home Warranty about the "no show" vendor they immediately sent out a request to another vendor for my pool/spa service call who did an excellent job by showing up and was able to resolve my issue.
Their customer service is reliable and responds immediately by phone and by their website. This is my first experience with Choice Home Warranty and it has so far been good (aside from the no-show). I don't know how they rate their vendors, but Choice Home Warranty really should vet them especially when they get complaints of unprofessionalism in my case namely Emerald Pools who not only did not bother to show up but after I cancelled and complained 3 days afterward contacted me to schedule a questionable appointment.
My advice is if you are interested in purchasing a home warranty with Choice, be sure you stay on top of the vendor and make sure they fulfill their agreement, if not it's really important to complain to Choice Home Warranty and rate these vendors when they are unprofessional and definitely give them positive feedback when they exceed your expectations.

Our technician from HM Appliance Repair was amazing! He diagnosed the problem immediately and was out in no more than 15 minutes. We were not sure how the experience would go, it was our first claim filed with Choice Warranty. We were pleasantly surprised! A definite keeper and a great repair experience; you don't get to say that too often!!!

I was pleased with the way submitting a claim was so easy. Got a prompt response and soon after an appointment was scheduled. This is my first time on moving forward with a claim. I'm in the middle of the process and looking forward to good results. What else can I say?? I'm just at beginning stage and I'm sure it will be fine.

Since this is my first claim I am hoping CHW holds up to the service I have received from Gary ** our agent. He always gets back to us and is available for questions by phone, text or email. Having him available has been so rewarding. This is my first claim so I hope CHW does as great a job as Gary ** has.

Thomas came out even earlier than expected which was good. He diagnosed my heater that was not producing heat and running cold air. He found the problems and was able to replace the Thermostat. Very nice man. This is my first claim as a new customer. Glad I changed companies.
